I was delighted to be invited to present this topic at the 2018 Association for Popular Music Education conference in Nashville, USA.
Abstract: The relationship between teacher and student can be one of the most profound and deep partnerships in one’s life. In these moments of discovery and opportunity, a skilled teacher can guide a student toward positive outcomes and steer them away from undesirable results. A similar model of one-on-one guidance has emerged in the discipline of executive and business coaching.
Executive and Business coaching is a relatively recent trend in developing skills and characteristics in the corporate world. In this short time, extensive research has been done in this area and a number of models or templates have been shown to best support both coaches and clients. This workshop will focus on three of these models: the GROW and GROWTH models, and the Co-Active approach of coaching. Through discussion and practical examples, the presenter will demonstrate how these models can be incorporated into an applied studio setting.
